The role of community participation and communication in selected communities in three districts in the Ashanti region.

The project sought to contribute to the reduction of malaria through the understanding of the dynamics at play in communication and community participation in the three project districts; namely Offinso, Ahafo-Ano South and Bosomtwi-Atwima Kwanwoma Districts. As a research project, the following specific objectives were pursued:

a) To understand the factors that perpetuate malaria cases in the communities

b) To access the level of awareness/knowledge about ITN as well as its ownership and use in the communities

c) To access the level of accessibility, affordability and effectiveness of the ITNs from the perspective of those who had used them for a length of time.

d) To access the effectiveness of community own interventions towards malaria control

e) To identify community preferences in modes of communication that positively affected their behaviour, attitudes and perception about malaria
