Gender and Economic Reforms in Africa

CEDEP facilitated an action-oriented research and training project between the Kumasi Central Market traders and the policy makers of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly. The main objective was to support the market women to identify and develop structures enabling them to participate in economic policy-making at the local level. The learning and action component was geared towards getting the women to appreciate the linkages between the producer of the foodstuff and the trader and how policy can be to the advantage of these linkages.

Legal Plurality and Women Access to Land Focal Area

CEDEP trained final year students of University of Ghana Law School in PRA and how to use the technique to mobilize and obtain relevant information about communities. Students after the training were sent to Kyekyewere, a rural community in Wassa West District in Western region where they were assisted to put their PRA skills into practice. Using such tools as social map and focus groups discussions, the students were able to map out proportion of land owned by men and women in the community.

Cedep / US Embassy Human Rights And Good Governance Project

This was a 1 year anti-violence project that aimed to bring to the forefront of public consciousness that gender-based violence was a human rights issue. The project was implemented in Piase community in the Bosomtwi-Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region.

Nkyinkyim Anti-Violence project

The Nkyinkyim Project was a national anti-violence project coordinated by Gender Studies and Human Rights Documentation Centre in partnership with CEDEP and three other development organisations. The main goal of the project was to promote respect for and protect the rights of women by tackling the pervasive problem of violence against women (VAW) and other related issues that contribute to their subordinate status in society.
