On the 26 September 2013, as part of the SPEFA (Social Public Expenditure and Financial Accountablity) Project, CEDEP and the Kumasi Municipal Assembly (KMA) hosted the first SPEFA community forum at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in central Kumasi. The forum forms a key element of the SPEFA project, which CEDEP is implementing in tandem with the KMA.
The aim of the forum was to introduce the SPEFA project to citizens and to provide a platform for stakeholders to exchange views and give voice to a diverse range of society groups. A broad group of actors were in attendance at the meeting, including:
- Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister
- Assembly Members
- KMA Staff
- CEDEP Staff
- Civil Society organisations
- Members of the media
- Traditional leaders
- Women's groups
- Unit committee members
- Citizens groups
The forum provided an opportunity for citizens to engage with the KMA on issues central to development, including sanitation, road networks and the fiscal budget. The next forum and town hall meeting is expected to be held in December 2013. We look forward to the continued active participations of a broad range of the community!
